Undergraduate
Department of Computer and Information Sciences includes vigorous research activity and cultivation of excellent human resources that are evaluated highly in society. Research from each of the laboratories is presented at various Computer and Information conferences, and our students have received many awards for their excellent presentations. We also conduct active research in collaboration with industry and public institutes. Recently, we have been promoting the Smart Space Technology toward Sustainable Science project (in Japanese), jointly among several laboratories, to realize truly rich information environments that are compatible with people. Our rich and diverse teaching staff, including those with industry experience, is also a point of appeal for our students. History of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences
- 1980: Department of Mathematics and Information Science established. As the information age dawned, it was established as a professional training organization in computing and information, with a rich and pioneering curriculum and expert teaching staff.
- 1989: Reorganized into the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering As computers spread explosively into society, the course was re-organized to cultivate expert human resources with broad skills in information and computing sciences.
- 1998: Reorganization into the Information and Communications Engineering Department. Teaching staffs were enriched and courses reorganized to promote education and research suited to the network communication era.
- 2006: Name is changed to Department of Computer and Information Sciences. With the arrival of the ubiquitous computing era, the course name was changed to clearly position it as an engineering course for cultivating the future, through information science.
