The Department of Computer and Information Sciences and each of the associated laboratories are conducting leading-edge research in a broad range of computer and information science and related research, from basic machine architectures for building information systems, to operating systems, telecommunications, networking, algorithms, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, robotics, human interfaces, virtual reality, and computer graphics. The laboratories are equipped with research equipment such as clustered computer systems capable of high-speed computation, compact mobile data terminals, virtual reality test equipment, and biometric signal sensors; and they are tackling leading-edge research problems. They also have much original test equipment and software developed in-house.
