According to the survey and report titled “Universities amenable to collaborative research and technology transfer” released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry in 2005, this school was second, in overall rankings, after Ritsumeikan University, and first among National universities in Japan. This survey was the result of interviews with 123 enterprises that are actively pursuing collaboration with academia. It is worth special mention that we received good evaluations in balance from both large and small enterprises. This suggests that the technology transfer and administrative process linking industry and the school are effective. We also ranked highest among National universities, by a wide margin, for the number of research collaborations per faculty member.
The many laboratories in this division engage actively in collaborative research with many companies and public research facilities in a wide range of fields such as proposing new information systems infrastructure, developing devices, applying optimal algorithms to real-world problems, developing solvers, and developing and evaluating user-friendly human interfaces considering ergonomic factors. These have produced many results. For inquiries regarding possible collaborative research, contact individual professors directly first. Contacts can be found by clicking the professors’ names on the laboratory introduction pages.
